The International Backlight 08 Photo Festival (13 September - 16 November) will take place in Austria, Finland, Italy and Poland. Its purpose is to promote international dialogue and to provide an encounter between artists and the public. The way the curators have selected the exhibited works in collaboration is also a representation of the nature of the event and of the pursuit of a dialogue.

In Tampere, the home town of the Backlight 08 main organiser Photographic Centre Nykyaika, the exhibition is shared by several facilities and galleries. The exhibition spaces include exhibition hall TR1 and Museum Center Vapriikki, Mältinranta Art Centre, Galleries Rajatila and Werstas as well as the Voipaala Art Centre in Valkeakoski. The Finlayson factory area will be the heart of the exhibition in Tampere.
